TMAO

(trimethylamine N-oxide)

Quick summary of the science  :

Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) is a molecule generated from choline, betaine, and carnitine via gut microbial metabolism. The plasma level of TMAO is determined by several factors including diet, gut microbial flora, kidney function and liver flavin monooxygenase activity.

In humans, recent clinical studies evidence a positive correlation between elevated plasma levels of TMAO and an increased risk for major adverse cardiovascular events.

NB.  Association does NOT  mean it CAUSES the problem

TMAO acts as a piezolyte, that means, it helps to protect the fish’s proteins, from being “crushed” by the water pressure
Eggs are more than just cholesterol, they’re full of goodies. They won’t up your odds of suffering a heart attack, in fact, they might just do the opposite.
High TMAO, has little to do with diet and everything to do, with being tired & hungry – it starts with the heart and this makes the colon leak TMA, increasing TMAO
